Regional higher education leaders to highlight industry partnerships at the Greater Portland Economic Summit

Tickets are still available for the Feb. 20 event, featuring global economic development expert Tracye McDaniel as keynote speaker

PORTLAND, Ore. – Greater Portland Inc (GPI) is gearing up for its 2020 Greater Portland Economic Summit, which convenes nationally and regionally respected thought leaders for key conversations about what makes us successful as a region and where we can improve.

Greater Portland Inc’s signature event celebrates GPI’s role as the region’s premier public-private partnership and shines a spotlight on our region’s competitiveness in a global economy.

This year, the Summit explores the partnerships between higher education and industry that ignite innovation and drive our region’s economic growth.

“Our region’s top-tier workforce plays a key role in attracting new firms to Greater Portland,” said Matt Miller, GPI’s interim president and CEO. “We are excited to highlight the ways our region’s institutions are working with industry to ensure our workforce remains competitive.”

The Summit features an all-star lineup led by Tracye McDaniel, a global voice in economic development based in Austin, Texas. A seasoned expert in the industry, Tracye has advised five governors and led marketing efforts in more than 50 countries.

“I am thrilled to join Greater Portland Inc and explore the power of regional collaboration to create a future-ready economy,” McDaniel said. “In my 30-year career helping position communities, regions, and states to be economically competitive, I have found that regional public-private collaborations are one of the strongest models for creating a global competitive advantage.”

In addition to McDaniel’s global perspective, the Summit will feature nine leading higher education voices from our region:

  • Belinda Batten, Executive Associate Dean for the College of Engineering at Oregon State University
  • Renny Christopher, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at Washington State University-Vancouver
  • President Tim Cook, Clackamas Community College
  • Interim President Sandra A. Fowler-Hill, Clark College
  • President Danny Jacobs, Oregon Health & Science University
  • Andrew Lattanner, Director of Portland Community College Training Center
  • Interim President Stephen Percy, Portland State University
  • President Michael Schill, University of Oregon
  • President Lisa Skari, Mt. Hood Community College

Dave Robertson, vice president of public policy for Portland General Electric, will moderate the panel conversations.

Tickets and tables of 10 are on sale now. Don’t miss this important regional conversation and one of the best networking opportunities of the year.

GPI would like to thank all the generous event sponsors, including PGE, OHSU, University of Oregon, Oregon State University, The Standard, Port of Vancouver USA, Slalom, Spirit Media, Miller Nash Graham & Dunn and The Boeing Company.
