Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf to highlight importance of public-sector leadership at 2022 Greater Portland Economic Summit
Tickets are still available for the Sept. 21 event.
PORTLAND, Ore. – Greater Portland Inc (GPI) is pleased to announce its annual Greater Portland Economic Summit will be held Wednesday, Sept. 21, at the Hyatt Regency Portland at the Oregon Convention Center. This election year, the event’s theme is Beyond Bureaucracy: Leadership in Action, and the program will focus on the key role our government leaders can play to spur economic growth.
The program’s keynote speaker, Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, has led the city’s economic revitalization – including an extraordinary residential building boom – while cutting gun violence in half. During her speech, Mayor Schaaf will share how she builds partnerships (including with the California governor’s office), pilots sustainable programs and navigates the nuts and bolts of government to get things done.
“I’m eager to hear from Mayor Schaaf,” said Greater Portland Inc CEO Monique Claiborne. “Our region is struggling with challenges, but they’re not unique on the West Coast. Tackling these issues requires accountability and strong leadership from our public officials. I look forward to my fireside chat with the mayor after her keynote, where we’ll dig into some proven approaches to our shared challenges.”
Following the conversation, audience members will have the chance to ask the mayor questions.
The Greater Portland Economic Summit celebrates GPI’s role as the only public-private partnership recruiting companies to the entire bi-state region. Each year, the event convenes hundreds of regional leaders to hear best practices from around the country, learn about our region's successes and unite around a shared vision for economic prosperity.
GPI will once again be honoring a community member with its Greater Portland Champion Award. This year, the award will be given to a public-sector leader who advocates for economic development and has a track record of creating positive economic outcomes for their community.
Thank you to our Summit sponsors for making this year’s program possible: Portland General Electric, US Bank, Portland Business Alliance, JPMorgan Chase, Mortenson, NW Natural, PNC Bank, Wells Fargo, Clean Water Services, Metro, Port of Portland and Port of Vancouver.
