Greater Portland Inc Celebrates SVI Electronics’ Expansion into the Pacific Northwest with Major Economic Impacts

Portland, OR – Greater Portland Inc proudly announces the expansion of SVI Electronics, a Thailand-based leader in Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS), to Vancouver, Washington, marking the company’s first U.S. manufacturing presence. This strategic move underscores the Greater Portland region’s position as a global hub for innovation, economic opportunity, and world-class talent.

SVI Electronics will occupy 46,946 square feet at the Vancouver Innovation Center and initially employ 100 team members, with plans to grow to more than 200 jobs in later phases. The company’s operations are expected to generate a significant economic ripple effect, including 13 indirect jobs, $47.8 million in total compensation, and $107.1 million in total sales and output annually.

“Greater Portland Inc and its partners celebrate SVI Electronics’ decision to locate its first U.S. manufacturing presence in the region,” said Monique Claiborne, CEO, Greater Portland Inc. “A premier site, access to top-tier talent, and exceptional quality of life made Greater Portland the clear choice. SVI Electronics is a welcome addition to the region’s robust electronics manufacturing ecosystem, and this announcement reinforces Greater Portland’s reputation as a destination for global business.”

SVI’s arrival results from close collaboration between Greater Portland Inc, Columbia River Economic Development Council, the Washington State Department of Commerce, and site selection consultants. The region’s unmatched geographic proximity to Southeast Asia, coupled with a strong industrial base, allows companies like SVI to connect seamlessly with North American markets while leveraging the area’s highly skilled workforce.

“We are excited to extend our operations to Vancouver,” said Patrick Loughran Macdonald, Chief Operating Officer at SVI Electronics. “The combination of site readiness, skilled talent, and proximity to our customers in the U.S. made this region the perfect choice for our expansion.”

The Vancouver Innovation Center will serve as SVI’s primary hub for assembly and testing operations in its first phase, ensuring rapid market entry and scalability. Subsequent phases are expected to create significant additional employment opportunities, further solidifying the company’s role as a key player in the Pacific Northwest’s technology landscape.

Greater Portland’s robust electronics manufacturing sector boasts 359 establishments employing over 41,400 workers, contributing $13 billion in regional exports in 2022. With 15 times the national average concentration of computers and electronics talent, the region offers a unique advantage for companies expanding their operations in North America.
