Footwear and apparel makers are becoming more conscious of the environmental impact of products that contain polyester-based and synthetic materials that will live on for centuries in landfills, unable to decompose.
Portland is a footwear and apparel industry mecca, home to three industry leaders — Nike, Adidas and Columbia Sportswear — and other smaller startups. With so much talent in the city, several companies have risen as key players in what is now a sustainable apparel cluster in the Rose City.
Jeffrey Jordan, son of Michael Jordan, and Tim Gobet, a 15-year Nike alum, recently launched Äktiiv, which makes products biodegrade within five years when thrown out, Gobet said. Read the full article on the Portland Business Journal.
