Portland-based outwear company OROS is expanding its operations after securing federal funding in the budget passed by Congress earlier this year. OROS uses NASA technology to create technical apparel that can withstand extreme temperatures. The defense research & development funding will enable the U.S. military to hire the firm to create next-generation protective apparel for soldiers. Greater Portland Inc assisted OROS in securing the federal funding, which will allow the firm to hire more scientists, researchers and designers in Portland to perform the cutting-edge research and development required of a federal contractor.

The company relocated its headquarters from Cincinnati to Portland in 2019 to take advantage of the Greater Portland region's excellent access to the outdoors and large pool of highly qualified apparel talent. Greater Portland Inc was proud to support that relocation, which is paying big dividends for the regional economy as OROS expands locally.

By moving its headquarters to Greater Portland, OROS joined the world leaders in the outdoor apparel and footwear sector: Nike, Adidas, Columbia Sportswear, Snowpeak, Danner Boots, Pendleton Woolen Mills all have headquarters here, and are supported by a robust ecosystem of world-class creative firms and highly specialized academic programs.
